Office Space

Sunday, January 29th, 2006

Wish I had office space, I really need it right now!  A daily planner helps me organize some, but I really miss having my own office space.

Since Christmas already passed and won’t come along for another 11 months, maybe I should ask Cupid for some space. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and that’s when Cupid usually visits us mortals.  I understand that it is an odd request and that he is used to delivering love related items…. but what I really need right now isn’t the drama of a relationship BUT a desk, a file cabinet and a desk all for myself!!!! I don’t care if it’s red, or has hearts all over…. I don’t care if it has windows or not (sure a view of the mountains would be nice) but not essential.

Do you think he’ll make an exception and get me what I KNOW that I need and not what he THINKS that I need??????

PLEASE Cupid, get me lovers later and some office space NOW!

Numb Lips

Friday, January 27th, 2006

I needed to get my picture taken this afternoon at school, had gone to the beauty saloon around noon and was getting done putting on makeup when I saw my sister’s lip gloss.

It seemed that lip gloss was the only element missing to complete the outfit, so I went ahead and applied some!  It was clear and shiny and looked exactly like a lip gloss should look like! My sister is the girliest of girls and always knows what is best when it comes to anything related to makeup or fashion.  I was VERY happy with the result!

The problem came 5 minutes later when my lips started tingling and then went numb! I ran to my sister and tell her that I think I’m having an allergic reaction to one of her lip glosses. She looks at me with a worried look and asks me slowly, "what lip gloss did you use?"  So I start describing the silver top when she cracks up laughing!

Now I’m the one with the worried look!  "What’s the matter?", I ask. And she goes ahead and explains that what I had used is NOT lip gloss - but something called lip plumper!  It has collagen and is supposed to make lips look fuller……. Anyone who has ever worn these plumpers knows that they all tingle and make your lips feel numb for a while.

We got a good laugh out of it - and I learned about this makeup thingy that’s supposed to be "in".

You know you are a GEEK when…

You know you are a TRUE GEEK when you go to a spa and bring your quantitive analysis, regresion and business forecasts books (aka - math) and calculator along!

Yes, I am guilty as charged.

Back to my studies…..

Easy to be a super power???

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

Some people think excellence comes easily. I don’t believe so.

I believe that excellence comes by having discipline, sticking to a plan, learning from mistakes, pulling through, not quitting when things get tough, self confindence and a positive attitude.

It’s not a coincidence or a streak of good luck that certain countries are super powers while others stuggle to feel their populations.

I recently bumped into someone that thought otherwise.  I respect her opinion, and I’m glad to hear it.  But come on, wake up and smell the coffee!!!

I know that for a country to become a super power, it takes a lot of work, integration, organization, leadership, etc.  Hard choices need to be made at times. Priorities must be set.   Agencies must be strong. The Justice system must be credible. Loyalty of government officials is crucial.  A strong military and support for research and development.  Education.  Health care. Infrastructure. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I have never been a negative person, but believing that Mexico is up to par with the United States is like believing in Santa Claus and his elves!  PLEASE!

I adore Mexico, it is the country that has seen me grow and it has made me who I am today BUT I am also a realist!

Wonderful day

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

Just your average wonderful day!

Woke up bright and early but well rested, enjoyed the morning paper with breakfast, took off for class (and actually learned a thing or two!), bought books, talked to my sister for over an hour, went to the bank, cooked lunch, picked up the maid at the bus stop, did laundry, finished assignment due next week, edited essay, caught up on e-mails, read a few chapters, watched a movie (one of those Audrey Hephburn classics), went for a walk,  showered and now I’m ready to go out and meet friends for drinks!

What a WONDERFUL DAY!  Wish more days seemed this long……

College in 2006

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

The same teachers teach the college level courses, the classrooms are exactly as I left them a few years ago, the policeman at the gate is a familiar face I have greeted many times before. Cooks, workers, and even the secretaries all remember me.  Yet I don’t know the students.  The student body has changed, and I don’t recognize myself within the group.

I notice a generation gap; they don’t.

It will be interesting to observe the ways of the young ones from within.  I’ll share the experiences of it on this blog.  So far I have seen LOTS of spiky hair, many chewing gum as if imitating a cow, jeans all around and plenty of metrosexuals.  I don’t know if they have all gone gay or are just dressing like it!

Boy ohh, boy, it shall be fun!

Back to School!

Monday, January 9th, 2006

My student attire is ready! Jeans, tennis shoes and a t-shirt!

:) I’m excited!  Living the life of a student once more……

More later, got to hit the bookstores now.
