Hot, hot, hot

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

Yes the weather is warm in Mexico, but my ear is HOT!!!

I have been on the phone almost all day long!  Enough…..

I’m going out, no more computer or phone for the day.  I’m done with both!

Bye!!!!!!!

Bye bye Germany!

Mexico’s soccer team lost against Argentina on Saturday at the World Cup. They played wonderfully, and I’m very proud of the fight they put up.  The plays were phenomenal!

The match was intense - the whole two quarters and the extra time had my whole country glued to the TV.

But the ONLY moment which gave me goose bumps was during the singing of the National Anthem.  WoW!  What a feeling of belonging.  Beautiful is the only word I can think of to describe it.

Mission Accomplished

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

James Patterson accomplished his mission once more; to move and inspire a reader through the words in one of his books.

My hat goes off to Mr. Patterson. Wherever you might be, I thank you.

I just finished reading a beautiful book called, "Sam’s letters to Jennifer" by James Patterson.  It was a light read which brought smiles, laughter and some tears as well. It’s a book about relationships, life and love.

Beautiful!

Ding Dong

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

Ding Dong rings the doorbell.  I go to the door and upon opening it, I don’t see anyone there.  I’m puzzled until I look down.

One of my neighbors (about 4 years old) is standing there.  I enthusiastically say, "HOLA".  She looks up at me and smiles and then tells me she’s collecting stamps of soccer players and asks me if I have any that I would give to her.

I can’t describe how cute the situation was.  A little girl dressed in pink with pigtails holding lots of stamps in her hands, asking me if I had any lying around, or if I’d like to trade with her.

She looked dissappointed when I told her that we didn’t have any stamps.  And as I came back inside the house memories flaunted me.  Memories of trading stamps back in elementary school of "Garbage Patch kids or Garbage Pail Kids" (the mean side of Cabbage Patch kids).  Horrible looking stamps now that I think of it, but so cool around school in the 80’s.

I thought of how I traded marbels with my cousins, and the many times we set up lemonade stands on the sidewalk.

Commerce at such an early age!  It’s amazing how sales and negotiation come naturally to some children.   Wish I could include some of my kid skills on my resume!

What would I write?  Thing like sucessful project manager and builder.  I remember building a tree house out of scratch once when I was a child.  It stood firm for over a decade until a hurricane hit northern Mexico and it was badly damaged, so we tore it down.    Does that count?

I just think it would be cool for recruiters to get an insight of the child within each potential employee, because the truth is that some things never change.  And the patterns that were seen in their behavior when they were 10 will probably resurface.

Maybe I should ask my 3rd grade teacher to be one of my references?

Or should I continue doing things by the book?

The child in me wants to venture out and take risks……

Awful Gamble

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

I don’t like to gamble, I don’t appreciate being forced to "do" something I don’t want to.  And it puts me in a very bad mood to do BOTH AND have to miss the NBA FINALS because of it!

Can you tell that I’m M A D ?????

I am.  I don’t mind others gamble, it’s just NOT my thing. So when I said I didn’t want to go to a loud casino tonight, one of the people I was with said, "don’t worry, here’s some money - gamble that!"  Which is NOT the point AT ALL.  I tried to explain, she wouldn’t listen.  She thinks that maybe I don’t know HOW to gamble - for God’s sake - it’s a SLOT MACHINE! All you have to do is push ONE BUTTON!  Where is the challenge in THAT?

1) I am stranded in a strange city in the middle of nowhere and my car is back home. We drove together and YOU chose to bring your car. I didn’t. Wouldn’t it be fair that we negotiate what to do?

2) I mention staying at the hotel bar to watch the HUGE basketball game, and you look at me as if I am crazy and say, "there’s no way I’m going to leave you all alone". (I had already researched and it would be on in there)  PLUS I’m an adult!  I can manage to take care of myself for two whole hours!  Being alone is not awful, it’s a choice.  And sitting alone in a bar does NOT mean I am needy - it just means I want to watch the game!!!!

3) Can’t turn back the clock - I will never get that time back.

4) Sitting in front of a stupid slot machine is NOT my idea of a good time. Especially since casinos are ILLEGAL in Mexico.

5) No matter what happens tomorrow, I WILL NOT go to the "casino" again.

6) Does the machine think I’m stupid? It would show me a sign saying, YOU have WON 20!  Not a very bright machine, because I bet 42 - therefore I LOST 22 and DID NOT WIN 20!   Uggghhhh!

7) It’s sad to see those addicted to gambling play.  I saw a woman with a rosary in her hands, another caressed the machines, and I noticed tears in the eyes of one person as he was leaving the premises.  Not fun.  Not fun.

8) And I just heard the Mavericks LOST!  =(

The sun will come out tomorrow…… right?

Surprises and the sorts

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

I received a lovely surprise today.   Out of the blue, something that was quite unexpected came to shed some extra happiness on my day.

Lovely.

Priceless.
