Hospital Upgrades

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

I had knee surgery a week ago at one of the best hospitals in northern Mexico.  The nurses have always been kind,  and the hospital has always been well known for its human touch.  It was recently acquired by an American company and I am AMAZED at the changes that have taken place.  I don’t know what stunned me more; the skill of my doctors or the organizational systems that are now in place.

Upon arrival around 6:30am I was greeted with a smile from an employee who was patient and clearly communicated the risks of the procedure that I was about to get done.  Without hesitation I signed the paperwork from the hospital and my insurance company.  The employee gave me all the information I could ever wish for about the hospital and then walked me over to PreOp.

As soon as I stepped into PreOp, I could tell that upgrades had been made to the hospital.  Having had other surgeries at this same hospital in the past, I was able to compare the PreOp area, and there were definete improvements. Once again the all members of the staff were wonderful and half an hour later I was being wheeled into the OR.  Smooth sailing from then on, all I remember are smiles and kind words until I left recovery.

Once in my room, as I sat on my bed I started to notice the upgrades there too. State of the art EVERYTHING and I saw the sky and trees above me.  Right above the bed, the ceiling is painted with images from the sky and trees.  Beautiful.

I just wish the Mexicans had done all the upgrades and improvements, but apparently it was the influence of the Americans taking over that did it.

I’m just happy that I was walking around without crutches or any help only 5 hours after my surgery!

Hotel Happenings

There’s an anecdote from my trip that I want to share, but don’t know exactly how to word it, so I’ll postpone adding it on here since I need to sit down and think.  And it seems like I haven’t had too much thinking time.

Because between helping one of my aunts move, job searching and sending off resumes, dealing with lawyers, unpacking, planning my knee surgery (scheduled for October 17th), catching up with friends, translating documents, taking online courses, planning a trip among other things, I just don’t seem to have the time to write much anymore.

But I will be in bed next week after the surgery so that’ll calm things down.

Until then…..

My dog or I?

I’m not sure who likes Starbucks more, me or my adorable basset hound.

If anyone from Animal Protection Services is reading this, please know that I DO NOT give my dog coffee or any caffeine for that matter.

But the smell drives him NUTS!  I can’t walk in with a cup of Starbucks, or else he’ll knock me over!

I guess it is something about the smell.

And I have learned my lesson - no more Starbucks to go for me!!!!
