The Secret

Monday, February 19th, 2007

I watched a documentary called The Secret last night and it turns out that The Secret was not much of a mystery to me!

The video documentary goes to explain how the Laws of Attraction work in the Universe, after watching the video I quickly e-mailed a friend of mine.  I sent him the e-mail because I remember having a conversation with him and some other friends about this 8 years ago! We knew The Secret LONG before it was a movie and way before it got its own show on Oprah, The Ellen Show or on Larry King Live!

I remember the moment perfectly, we were standing outside the gray building that hosted the offices for the State of the World Forum for Emerging Leaders.  The team that was formed to organize this global conference was truly a dream team. The impossible was made possible by a group of young idealists after a year of planning and hard work.

I was standing alongside some of these great leaders on a cold winter night, and somehow the conversation shifted towards philosophy.  We started giving our opinion about how what we had in our hands surpassed everyone’s expectations - even our own! How positive thinking and hard work along with some sort of external force had aligned everything perfectly.  We talked about how thoughts travel through the world (collective thinking) and how these thoughts connect us all. It has been proven that people come up with the exact same invention or idea at the exact same time even when they are on opposite sides of the planet (and this was way before the phone, fax and let alone the internet came into our lives). We talked about how it is a fact that those who write down their goals reach these goals much more often than those who don’t. The conversation went on for hours …..

So watching The Secret Video gave me a bit of a flashback to that cold winter night when my friends and I came up with our own version of THE SECRET.

I agree that Universal Laws governs everyone, everywhere. Some of these laws cannot be changed and cannot be broken.

I agree with the following statements and have seen the results of this translate into my life (before I was even aware of it).

  • Like attracts like
  • Whatever you want wants you
  • What you sow, you reap
  • What you put out you get back
  • What comes around goes around

I always visualized myself doing exactly what I am doing now. Did it pop into my lap while I was watching TV?  Nope - certainly NOT! I had to get up, study and work VERY hard to make it happen!  I concentrate on the positive and don’t dwell on the failures. I give thanks for what I have in life every day, I plan, smile at life and move forward.

I’m not sure if this is the way to success. I’m sure many other people have their own strategies and formulas and what works for them might be completely different.  I’m just sharing the fact that THIS works for me - I’m a happy person and anybody who knows me well can atest to it.

Carpe Diem!

Belated still counts?

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Hi, everyone!

Got so caught up reminding the people that I care about how much they mean to me, that I haven’t been able to post much this week! That and the fact that I ended up in the ER on Sunday night, plus I’m juggling a ton of things at work, have kept me away from you.

So to all the readers out there - Happy Belated Valentine’s Day!

I wish you much LOVE today and always!!!

Stellaness!

Sunday, February 11th, 2007

The weather has been gloomy in Mexico this weekend; rain, fog, cold wind, etc.

The perfect time for girly movies!!!!

I had an early dinner with friends last night and then talked to Katya, my sister. She wasn’t going out and I wasn’t in the mood either - so on my way back home from dinner I stopped at Blockbuster and picked up a couple of chic flicks!

We ended up watching "You, Me & Dupree".  It was entertaining with funny moments, but nothing mind blowing or of substance, except the very end of the movie. DON’T WORRY, THIS ISN’T A SPOILER, those who haven’t seen the movie may keep on reading!

Dupree talks about Carlness, and Dupreeness, so last night I got to thinking of Stellaness!  What does it mean to be ME?  Under what circumstances do I pull a Stella? What attitudes or traits make me different from those around me? Images came to my head, and I realized that I do know exactly what makes me unique.

And now that I think of it, so far today I have pulled two Stellas already!

The first one was early this morning, I sort of became the peace maker between two people I care for that had contradicting opinions and were starting to get into a heated argument. I immediately went into peacemaker mode, and gave them a speech on picking their battles and threw in somethings about teamwork and support.

The second was during a meal hosted by Culver that my family was invited to attend at a local hotel.  We shared a table with strangers, and I sat right next to one of them, I introduced myself and starting asking questions.  In no time, the conversation was flowing  and we were all at ease enjoying the moment together.  THAT is another Stella!

Being the middleman somehow comes easy to me, and that is just one positive trait of my Stellaness! (or Marianess, or Pastness depending on where you know me from)

Chismografo

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

A chismografo is a thing elementary school kids (in Mexico) use to reveal secrets to each other. If I remember correctly, you fold a piece of paper in a certain way to create six sections in the form of triangles at the end, and under each section the person writes a "secret" or something of the sort.

It wasn’t my thing back then and it certainly isn’t my thing now.  But my friend the antibride challenged me to reveal secrets like I would have on a chismografo, but now on my blog.  Here’s what I came up with!

6 things that you don’t know about me:

  1. I CAN’T sleep with socks on.
  2. I consider myself a shy person.
  3. I drive without a destination at times, just for the sheer pleasure of being on the road!
  4. I dance around the house when I’m alone.
  5. I knew Pope John Paul II had Parkinsons years before the church admitted it.
  6. I had a crush on one of my college professors once and until today nobody knew.  (he was 30 years my elder, very fat, and totally bald BUT had the greatest smile, had a wonderful attitude about life and his intelligence mesmerized me!)

BONUS:  A boyfriend and I snuck into a castle in Ireland once, and we slow danced inside the highest tower.
